Anno Domini

This year is A.D 2006. Today, we use A.D and B.C to label our date, the year so that we have some sort of a gauge as in which year we are in. There had been various attempts to change the way we label our year. The ancient Chinese, before they got to learn about this sort of labelling, label their year using their emperors as a guage, like the 3rd year of Emperor Han Wudi. If I dun remember wrongly, some ancient civilisations also used such method to label their years. The French tried in the 1790s to change the way, by scraping the whole calendar and using a new one. But today, we are calling this year A.D 2006. This means something, other than the fact that you see ABCD in A.D and B.C.

A.D is the latin word for Anno Domini, which literally translates as 'in the year of the Lord'. And B.C means 'before Christ'. In case my readers are so wols, just let me spend a bit of time explaining. The years 'before Christ' are the years before Jesus Christ was born... as …

God, I can only imagine...

In case people are wondering if you have entered a new blog, dun be alarmed. I just removed the irritating alert for the comfort of my fan readers. I tried to change the music as well to something new but somehow or rather, there is something wrong with the music hosting. And the choice of music I have counts also.

Haven't been blogging for quite a long time but before I begin, just let me ask, why can't India win the world cup?

Anyway, recently, this blog title really sets off some thinking cap on me. Can people really know who God really is? Of course, I think all of you would have known what I want to say. But let's try this: why not you try to imagine what God is like and if you really have a concrete answer or if you think, you can put in a comment in the tagboard or the comment box.

Now for all, this is my answer:

The LORD is com…

Some thoughts today

But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth
- Exodus 9:16

Somehow or rather, although I have read this verse sometime ago but the verse just keeps getting stucked in my mind. Maybe it's cos I have been struggling with the inertia that I felt recently towards my work with God. A few chapters before that, God has this to say:

Moses said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."

The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD ? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say."
- Exodus 4:10-12

Well, reflecting upon my past, I was not as confident as I looked to be a few years back. Back then, it was quite an introverted me as to say, and I think when it comes to interacting wit…

A joke for thought

In a Christian seminar about Christianity, there was this 'enlightened atheist' who managed to strike a conversation with the speaker about the religion and God Himself. He said to the speaker, 'Well sir, assuming that I'm right, and I'm confident that I'm right all this while, that God doesn't exist at all, then you would have wasted your lifetime preaching about 'God'.' The speaker looked at the atheist in the eyes, smiled, and replied, 'If you are right, I would have wasted 50-70 years of my life. But if I'm right, you would have wasted eternity.'

Well, a joke for thought.

Butterfly

yeah..每次一见到你就心存感激
现在我能坦然面对自己
我会永远珍惜我会永远爱你
在我心底的你的位置没有人能代替
yeah 你就是那唯一

I cannot resist but post up this song in my blog today. It's a chinese song sang by David Tao, literally can be translated to 'Butterfly'. This song has been listened to by many listeners all over the world. I used to like this song, though I still like it now. But the context which I viewed this song became totally different after someone mentioned to me that David Tao is a Christian. Then suddenly, everything starts to make sense. Suddenly a lot of his songs start to make sense. Then, this song starts to make sense. At first glance, t…

Of detachment and matriculation

I was reading some of my friends' blogs recently. It just seems that sometimes the ultimate suffering and pain a person can ever face in his own walk in life is loneliness. I strongly believe that man is made by God as a social creation. That's why God created Eve for Adam. Man is meant to socialise with Man. I strongly believe that. Therefore hell happens when loneliness sets in. In the Bible, hell is separation or banishment from God himself, it's the ultimate saddest thing someone can ever experience in his entire life. Have you ever tried living in a forest with just yourself? Well, magnify that feeling by 1/0 times and you get the feeling of hell.

But of course, the situation I'm talking about here is not hell, but it's about the detachment of oneself from the people around him, it's the inability to relate with the people around you, or the tendency to start thinking that people are wasting your time and you ought to be spending time the way you want it. …

World Cup, soccer, singing, renewal

The World Cup season is coming. It is only once every four years that we see people from all over the world coming together to watch the greatest event in soccer, people abandoning their cultural differences or any personal differences to come together to watch their favourite soccer teams pitting against one another. I used to think that soccer may be a very good way in uniting the people around the world together, especially after the Third-place playoff in 2002 when the Turkey team joined in hands in hands with the South Korea team to thank the supporters for their supports. Today, I think there is a better way than soccer. After all, although being the most popular sport in the world currently, there are many people who still dun understand why people would be interested in 22 people chasing after one stupid ball. Furthermore, based on experience, when it comes to deep appreciation of the sports, somehow or rather, especially so in Singapore, discussions between the females about …

You know it

I was reading one of my friend's blog just now and he comments something like you will know it when you belongs. Somehow or rather, this just striked a chord in me. I can still remember around 1 year minus 21 days, I met the current group of people whom I now hang out with quite often, the group of people who eventually become part of my life, who become my spiritual family. Somehow or rather, when I met them initially, I felt a sense of attachment, though the sense wasn't that strong at that time, but I felt comfortable being with them. It's those kind of moment when you felt a sense of possibility that you might be clicking into the group. Ever since I received Christ, I had gradually came to realise that it's all within God's planning. The most amazing thing is really that you will know it and realise it after everything. Such is the mystery of God's planning.....

Such is the mystery of God's planning...

Pentacost

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
- Acts 2:1-4

"And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

I will show wonders in the heavens
and on the earth,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.

The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.

And everyone who calls
on the name of the LORD will be saved;

Over the Hedge

Just went to watch Over the Hedge. Honestly speaking, I didn't really know the storyline beforehand, but I heard good comments over that movie, so decided to watch it. (Anything as long as it's better than DVC) I won't spoil the story for those who have not watched it but there are quite a few observations here and there which really touched me there.

One of the themes in the movie is about family. Basically, in short, the story is about this rangoon got himself into a mess and ended using a family of forest animals to get himself out of the mess, but ended up being treated as part of the family, something more than what he bargained for. Yes, a family. Makes me think of those poor souls out there who are ever looking for a family (I'm not trying to act holy or what, in case people like you-know-who start commenting, 'so holy...'). This message about a family is so staring in the eyes in the movie that one cannot stop but start pondering about it. To put it int…
