Butterfly

yeah..

I cannot resist but post up this song in my blog today. It's a chinese song sang by David Tao, literally can be translated to 'Butterfly'. This song has been listened to by many listeners all over the world. I used to like this song, though I still like it now. But the context which I viewed this song became totally different after someone mentioned to me that David Tao is a Christian. Then suddenly, everything starts to make sense. Suddenly a lot of his songs start to make sense. Then, this song starts to make sense. At first glance, this song sounds like just another love song. But something just doesn't fit. For one thing, the love being depicted in the song sounds too chim to be a love by another human being, sounds simply too chim. When you put Jesus into the picture, then everything sounds logical. Maybe people want to see things another way, and it's fine. This is a song meant to be enjoyed by everyone else.

Friday we had our Alpha welcome tea. It was finally over. Time was spent planning for it, doing the MM clips for it, doing the deco for it, doing the calling for the freshmen. This Alpha programme is a series of events that we are organising for this year's uni freshmen, to help them prepare for uni life by helping them to know more other fellow freshmen from their uni and more importantly, explore Christianity in a more fun and meaningful way. Throughout the days, from experience, I think it is natural for people to look at us and say, 'aiya, it's the same thing again. You are just trying to get me into your church, that's all.' I think to be fair, if a Christian dun do that, then he will have to question himself if he's really a Christ follower. To put it into perspective, if I find a food store which serve the best food around the corner, and I dun share the news with my friends and other people, ain't I a selfish person? I personally feel quite optimistic about this whole event that even if people dun really receive Christ in the end, they will enjoy the whole events and get to know more people and they will get to know more about Christianity and clear off the stupid allegations the DVC and the GOJ make. I feel quite sad when people really got turned off when they heard that this is going to be a Christian event. Try asking the NUS Buddhist Society to do the same thing and I think people will be a bit more receptive (I'm not sure). Anyway, glad that the Alpha is now on its way. Expect a fruitful 6 weeks.

Today is my first time doing ushering for the church service. It's a men-focused service, so there was an all-guys usher team, all-guys worship team and we have a male preacher today, preaching about the spiritual responsibility of men in God's kingdom. Ushering was fun. Utterly cool. Felt as if I was back to the former council days. It also feels different to praise and worship God at the back of the auditorium. Somehow or rather, there's a different feeling while meditating on the words of the songs.

Well, while watching WC2006, awaiting for Alpha 2006.
