Pentacost

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

"And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

I will show wonders in the heavens
and on the earth,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.

The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.

And everyone who calls
on the name of the LORD will be saved;
for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
there will be deliverance,
as the LORD has said,
among the survivors
whom the LORD calls.

Today is Pentacostal Sunday and as I'm typing this post, thousands of Christians are gathering at National Stadium in preparation for the Global Prayer Day, to pray for all the nations and revival of the lands. Today, also marked the the century anniversary of the second Pentacost at Azusa Street in 1906, where God brought forth a revival and where there was a generous outpouring of the Holy Spirit all around the world. This marked a renewal of the faith in Christians all over the world (note that I'm not saying that they had no faith before this). To experience the one-time experience of the outpouring and overflowing of the Holy Spirit is a promise of God since the Old Testament days, as seen in the book of Joel, and this promise was fulfilled after Jesus Christ ascended back to heaven, as recorded by Luke in Acts. It can be quite an exciting thing to experience this outpouring, the gift of God to all His children. And as a result of this outpouring in 1906, it resulted in 500-600 million Pentacostal Christians all over the world today...

And yeah, that includes me, and....

may include you too...

maybe in times to come...

if you only take the step of faith...

Good gifts are hard to reject...

Of Teaching and Learning

Over the past two weeks, I was invited to attend a block class on "Learning to Teach." After two weeks of class, here are some reflections that I have. We thank God Bro Casey is a pretty humane teacher... :P  Firstly, teaching needs to meet the changing challenges of the 21st century. This is especially pertinent with all the advancements in technology as well as the worldview changes with the generation today. There is simply no room for the teacher to remain stagnant and not be able to keep up with times so as to engage their students and to facilitate learning. Applying to theological education and Bible school, we have to consider what kind of ministers we are training for the churches in the 21st century. If we are training ministers who are able to engage today’s generation, then we need to review the current methods of teaching and train ministers to be savvy in social media and technology and be able to make use of them in their ministries. Iakobou Epistode: From Confusion to Clarity

Recently I was taking another course on the book of James. Similar to Romans, this is also a book that I have co-taught in church and studied in Eagles Rendezvous. Revisiting this book again yielded three reflection points. 1. The disciple's identification  The epistle by James is an interesting book within the New Testament to study. In my own NT study, I have also been fascinated by how economical the NT authors when it comes to their words - that they do not waste words in their letters. This manifests itself right from the beginning when the NT authors introduce themselves. Many of us will sometimes skip over the introduction, but we can learn a lot about the epistle itself as well as its application to our Christian life through the introduction. In James, for example, James introduced himself as a slave of God and the Lord Jesus Christ (James 1:1).
