Acts 20:24 - However, I consider my life worth nothing, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.

Roman 8:38-39 - For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither any heght nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God, that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Luke 1:38 - "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said."

Psalm 118:8 - It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.

Combing through the bible, I can find verses in almost every book that talks about God being our refuge, and us relying on God, being confident that He is always there for us.

I can think of some analogies. I sorta imagine when we are married, we can expect our spouses to be there for us whenever we need them. Likewise, when we have good friends, we can more or less be confident that we can fall back on these people in times of need. According to the bible, God is ultimate Spouse and the ultimate good friend...

Why is this important for us to know? You see, we often read from the bible about God calling us out of our comfort zone to do His work. Even as I'm taking some time out of my work to type this reflection, I can feel His calling of me out of the civil service (that's after a few months in here) to go somewhere else... of course I dun know where that somewhere is yet, although I think I can be sure of the general direction.

And when He calls us out of the comfort zone, we are often faced with difficult choices. Abrams had to give up his life, Moses had to give up his comfortab;e shepherd life, Gideon had to step out of his cowardice, Jeremiah had to transcend his youth, Jonah had to get out of his comfort, Hosea had to marry a whore, Mary had to suffer the persecution that comes from an pregancy that was conceived out of the normal marriage, Jesus ended up like a fox with no hole, Paul got flogged and framed and accused in foreign lands, and we can go on and on.

When we face with difficult choices, we need to be sure that the God who called us to make these choices is in control and we can readily rely on Him. Easier said than done, cos the faith required for us to take the leap will normally be a quantum one. But we can be sure that we can totally rely on Him, because if we can't, then it's not God, He will be lying... and what does the bible say about God lying?

So I am just thinking, if God can be our only source of reliance, and He is all we need, then we will have all we need when we make the choices that honor Him.

Some food for thought
