Thoughts from land far away

One thing about going for inter-denominational mission trips is that you meet people who are fervent and serious about doing missions for God. And that makes one think and reflect how serious we are when it comes to missions, especially the way they love people. I'm beginning to believe that love is really hard work and it takes practise. We need to practice love in our daily lives and only that it can be shown in the mission field.

I was just sitting on the car earlier while returning to base and began to have this daydream. I was imagining a time when God decided to take me home early and God was asking me how I felt. My response was to tell God that I felt that I have yet accomplished a lot of things for Him and I dun want to be home so early although God assured me that He has His plans for me and the rest of the people around me. Eventually He allowed me to return with the conditions that I quit my job and do His work.

On reflection, I am not sure if this imagined scene reflects what God has in mind for me... At least I know if He asks me to quit, He will provide for me. But the main thing seems to be on the level of commitment I am willing to go through and the level of seriousness for His work.

My prayer on a constant basis has always been David Livingstone's prayer:

Send me anywhere, only go with me
Lay any burden on me, only sustain me
Sever any tie but those which binds me to Thy heart and services

And the day comes that this prayer be answered, I have one more prayer: that I will not be wavered and be able to go through all the way for Him.

Think like a missionary, live like a missionary and pray like a missionary before one becomes a missionary.

Of Teaching and Learning

Over the past two weeks, I was invited to attend a block class on "Learning to Teach." After two weeks of class, here are some reflections that I have. We thank God Bro Casey is a pretty humane teacher... :P  Firstly, teaching needs to meet the changing challenges of the 21st century. This is especially pertinent with all the advancements in technology as well as the worldview changes with the generation today. There is simply no room for the teacher to remain stagnant and not be able to keep up with times so as to engage their students and to facilitate learning. Applying to theological education and Bible school, we have to consider what kind of ministers we are training for the churches in the 21st century. If we are training ministers who are able to engage today’s generation, then we need to review the current methods of teaching and train ministers to be savvy in social media and technology and be able to make use of them in their ministries. Iakobou Epistode: From Confusion to Clarity

Recently I was taking another course on the book of James. Similar to Romans, this is also a book that I have co-taught in church and studied in Eagles Rendezvous. Revisiting this book again yielded three reflection points. 1. The disciple's identification  The epistle by James is an interesting book within the New Testament to study. In my own NT study, I have also been fascinated by how economical the NT authors when it comes to their words - that they do not waste words in their letters. This manifests itself right from the beginning when the NT authors introduce themselves. Many of us will sometimes skip over the introduction, but we can learn a lot about the epistle itself as well as its application to our Christian life through the introduction. In James, for example, James introduced himself as a slave of God and the Lord Jesus Christ (James 1:1).
