Man of Sorrows

Image
The bridge of this song makes my hair stand:
Now my debt is paid
It is paid in full
By the precious blood
That my Jesus spilled
Now the curse of sin
Has no hold on me
Whom the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I was catching up with an ex-colleague after she asked me out impromptu before dinner. It was a surprise call but I thought "why not" since I myself have not caught up with her for sometime.

We talked about a lot of things but the most surprising thing, and perhaps the one joy of the conversation, was the discovery that she received Christ sometimes earlier this year. I was shocked, perhaps to the point of tears, but I was happy as well. I remembered how I shared with her some of my journeys before I came to receive Christ some years back on the train and I regretted alighting from the train too soon, ending my sharing halfway. But God has been faithful and sent someone to share with her.

One reflection from the conversation is that God is forever faithful. I was just thinking about how God has always asked the Israelites to teach their children of the Passover, how He delivered Israel from Egypt and how He brought the Israelites to the Promised Land. In the Old Testament, e…

The sacking of a pregnant woman

Today I read an article on Straits Times on FCBC needing to sack one of their church staff for having an affair with another staff. The woman was later on sacked and she went on to MOM to complain as the church did not compensate her for sacking her a few months before she delivers.

I don't think I will go in and comment whether the church's sacking of the woman is unjust or not, as I do not attend this church and I shall not overstep my boundary to judge whether Lawrence Khong has done the right thing. But this makes me think of church employment and reflect on the quality of disciples we have today in the church. Disturbing in the article is a seemingly lack of repentance on the part of the woman who, after being assured that she will keep the job if she stops seeing the man and attends counselling, persisted in seeing the man. Worse still, she was undergoing divorce proceeding.

I just wonder how much example should a church staff be setting for the congregation, or if there…

How the fight got started

I took my wife to a restaurant.

The waiter, for some reason, took my order first.

"I'll have the rump steak, rare, please."
He said, "Aren't you worried about the mad cow?"
"Nah, she can order for herself."

And that's when the fight started.....

My wife and I were sitting at a table at her high school
reunion, and she kept staring at a drunken man swigging his
drink as he sat alone at a nearby table.

I asked her, "Do you know him?"
"Yes", she sighed,
"He's my old boyfriend. I understand he took to drinking
right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear he
hasn't been sober since."

"My God!" I said, "Who would think a person could go on
celebrating that long?"

And then the fight started...

Beautiful Feet

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” - Romans 10:14-15 (NIV) Incidentally, I was resurfacing the thought of reconciling missions with my theological studies when I was attending this talk by Ravi Zacharias on Tuesday evening on issues and challenges in missions in Asia. It is indeed true that if no one is sent, then a lot of people will not be able to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. As I contemplate on the great needs for discipleship and outreaching in this part of the world, it is amazing to see how God is opening up the doors all over the world for missionaries to go in and start sharing the gospel.

And I just ask God if I ever have the chance to be this beautiful feet.
